Long Biography
Mark Thompson is a professional genealogist, educator, and public speaker specializing in helping family historians use technology to uncover their roots. Combining extensive leadership experience in technology with his passion for genealogy, Mark makes complex technologies accessible and practical for genealogists of all skill levels. He frequently leads workshops and presentations teaching genealogists practical skills in Artificial Intelligence, Genetic Genealogy, Excel, and Family Archiving.
As co-host of the Family History AI Show podcast alongside Steve Little, Mark helps genealogists bridge the gap between high technology and their family history research. He is a founding member of the Coalition for Responsible AI in Genealogy (CRAIGEN), helping guide the genealogy community in the responsible and ethical use of AI.
Mark serves as President of the Victoria Genealogical Society and chairs their DNA Special Interest Group. Prior to becoming a genealogist, he served in executive IT leadership roles. A member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Mark has decades of teaching and public speaking experience. When not exploring family histories, he enjoys photographing nature in his home province of British Columbia, Canada.
